Questions about how Chatnee works

A communication-first app designed to help you practice intentional conversation, build self-awareness, and step outside your comfort zone in a safer, more considered way.

Chatnee is a communication-first social app designed to help people connect through real conversation. We focus on questions, values, and emotional understanding, not appearances or surface-level profiles.

No. Chatnee is not built around swiping or quick judgments. It is a space for meaningful conversations.

Most platforms start with profiles, photos and endless choice. Chatnee starts with how you think, what you value and how you communicate. Instead of browsing through a feed, you’re connected to one person at a time based on your foundation responses, with space to focus on a single conversation without constant distraction.

Once you request a connection, the other person must accept before the conversation begins. You will be notified in the app when your request is accepted.

If the other person declines, you will be notified and can move on to a new conversation partner.

If a user does not respond to a connection request within 24 hours, the system will automatically move users forward to keep conversations active.

Chatnee is designed to encourage intentional conversation. Once you are matched and the chat begins, a 72-hour timer starts.

During this period, the exit option is not available. Users are encouraged to engage and complete the conversation window.

When the full 72 hours has passed, an exit button will appear, allowing you to leave the conversation and request a new connection.

Profile photos are hidden at the start to keep the focus on communication.

After 24 hours of active conversation, both users’ profile photos are automatically revealed.

Yes. If you choose to, you may unlock early photo reveal for $5.

Early reveal only shows your photo to the other person. It does not reveal their photo to you unless they also choose early reveal or the 24-hour mark is reached.

No. There’s no swiping, no endless scrolling and no catalogue of faces. Chatnee is intentionally designed to reduce comparison and decision fatigue. You’re connected with one person at a time so you can focus on the quality of the interaction in front of you.

If you decide a conversation isn’t for you, you don’t simply disappear. You close the chat using a simple, guided step and can then request to be reconnected with someone else. You can also leave optional feedback.

It’s not about over-explaining — it’s about basic clarity and respect, so no one is left wondering what happened or why the conversation suddenly ended.

Chatnee is launching in Australia and the US first in early 2026 due to technical delays, with the intention of expanding to additional regions once the experience is stable and feels right for our early community. If you are in another country and find interest in Chatnee, please join the waitlist.

Your first conversation on Chatnee is free.

If you choose to exit that conversation after the 72-hour window and request a new connection, a subscription may be required to continue using matching features.

Full pricing and subscription details are always shown clearly in the app before any payment is made.

No — Chatnee does not use live GPS tracking or continuous location services. We’re built for an authentic, communication-first experience, so connection isn’t based on who is closest to you.

You may be asked for a general location (like your city/suburb) for context, but we do not track your real-time location, and we don’t build your matches around proximity.

Yes, it’s possible — and we’ll always be transparent about it. Chatnee is built around connection quality, not just geography, so if your strongest compatibility sits outside your country, we won’t hide that from you.

We connect you with the person who scores the highest compatibility score to you based on your foundation responses and communication style — because we care about the experience you’re having, not forcing “nearest person” connections that don’t actually fit.

If someone you’re connected with is in another country, you’ll know. The goal is to protect trust, reduce surprises, and put your comfort first — so you can decide what feels right for you.

To maintain integrity and fairness, survey answers cannot be changed once submitted.

If we introduce new survey questions in the future, you may be asked to complete only the newly added questions. Your existing responses will remain unchanged.

You control what you share. Some information is required to create an account and keep the platform safe, but you can keep your profile minimal and manage your preferences within the app.

We use moderation tools, reporting features, and safety processes to reduce harassment, spam, and harmful behaviour.

If something feels off, you can report it and our team will review it.

Inside the app, you can report directly from the conversation screen. Select the reason, add optional details, and our team will review the report.

For account deletion requests and all customer enquiries, you can message us directly in the app, or email customersupport@chatneeapp.com.
